Safari Itinerary (TEMBO) – Elephant & Migration (Calving Season)

This 8-day safari is designed around the calving season, when thousands of wildebeest give birth across the southern plains of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. It is one of the best times to witness predator action, large herds, and dramatic wildlife moments. The itinerary also includes Tarangire and Serengeti for a complete Northern Circuit experience.

Day1: Arusha to Tarangire National Park

Pickup from your lodge in Arusha, such as Mtoni River Lodge, followed by a drive to Tarangire National Park. Enjoy a full game drive in this park, famous for its large elephant herds and baobab landscapes. Expect to see elephants, giraffes, zebras, and various antelope species.

Day 2: Tarangire to Karatu

After breakfast, continue your safari in Tarangire with a game drive until late afternoon. The park’s river attracts wildlife throughout the day, offering excellent viewing opportunities. Later, drive to Karatu, a peaceful town located near Ngorongoro.

Day 3: Karatu to Southern Ngorongoro (Ndutu Area)

After breakfast, depart for the southern plains of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, particularly the Ndutu region. This area is the heart of the calving season during January and February. Large herds of wildebeest gather here to give birth, attracting predators such as lions, cheetahs, and hyenas.

Day 4: Full Day Safari in Southern Ngorongoro

Spend the entire day exploring the Ndutu plains. This is one of the most active wildlife periods in Africa, with newborn animals and frequent predator interactions. Your guide will follow the herds and maximize sightings throughout the day.

Day 5: Ndutu to Serengeti National Park

After breakfast, continue your journey into the Serengeti. Enjoy a game drive along the way as the landscape transitions into endless plains. The central Serengeti (Seronera) is known for its resident wildlife and high predator population.

Day 6: Full Day Safari in Serengeti

Spend a full day exploring the Serengeti. This region offers excellent chances to see lions, leopards, cheetahs, elephants, and more. Your guide will take you to different areas based on wildlife movement and seasonal activity.

Day 7: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater

Start with an early morning game drive in the Serengeti before heading toward Ngorongoro. Descend into the crater for a safari in this unique ecosystem, home to a dense population of wildlife including the Big Five.

Day 8: Transfer to Arusha Airport

After breakfast, transfer to Arusha Airport for your flight to Zanzibar at 14:00 or onward travel.
