Day 2: Lemosho Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp

  • Elevation: 2,100m to 2,750m
  • Distance: 7 km
  • Time: 3–4 hours

Your trek begins on the quieter western side of Kilimanjaro. The trail winds through dense rainforest filled with tall trees, moss-covered branches, and rich birdlife. The pace is gentle, allowing your body to adjust gradually to the altitude. This first day sets a relaxed tone for the climb as you reach Mti Mkubwa Camp, surrounded by forest.

Day 3: Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp

  • Elevation: 2,750m to 3,500m
  • Distance: 8 km
  • Time: 5–6 hours

Leaving the forest behind, the landscape opens into moorland with wide, sweeping views. The vegetation changes to shrubs and unique high-altitude plants. The trail becomes steeper as you approach Shira 1 Camp, located on the Shira Plateau. From here, you can enjoy expansive views and your first clear sight of the mountain.

Day 4: Shira 1 Camp to Shira 2 Camp

  • Elevation: 3,500m to 3,850m
  • Distance: 7 km
  • Time: 3–4 hours

This is a shorter and more relaxed day, designed to help with acclimatization. You cross the wide Shira Plateau, one of the highest plateaus in the world. The terrain is open and scenic, with views of Kibo Peak ahead. The gradual ascent allows your body to adapt while conserving energy for the days ahead.

Day 5: Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp via Lava Tower

  • Elevation: 3,850m to 4,630m then down to 3,960m
  • Distance: 10 km
  • Time: 6–8 hours

This is a key acclimatization day following the “climb high, sleep low” principle. You ascend to Lava Tower, where the altitude becomes noticeable and the environment more rugged. After a break, you descend to Barranco Camp. The descent helps your body adjust while offering dramatic views of the Barranco Valley and surrounding glaciers.

Day 6: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp

  • Elevation: 3,960m to 4,035m
  • Distance: 5 km
  • Time: 4–5 hours

The day begins with the climb up the Barranco Wall, one of the most exciting parts of the trek. Though steep, it is manageable and rewarding, with stunning views from the top. The trail then continues across ridges and valleys toward Karanga Camp. This shorter day helps with further acclimatization before the final ascent.

Day 7: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp

  • Elevation: 4,035m to 4,640m
  • Distance: 4 km
  • Time: 3–4 hours

You continue ascending into a dry and rocky alpine desert. The environment becomes harsher, with thinner air and minimal vegetation. Upon reaching Barafu Camp, you rest, have an early dinner, and prepare for the summit attempt later that night.

Day 8: Summit Day – Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp

  • Elevation: 4,640m to 5,895m then down to 3,100m
  • Distance: 17 km
  • Time: 10–14 hours

The summit climb begins around midnight. Moving slowly in the dark, you make your way up steep slopes under the stars. Reaching Stella Point at sunrise is a major milestone, with breathtaking views above the clouds. From there, you continue to Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa. After celebrating, you descend carefully to Mweka Camp, passing through changing landscapes as you lose altitude.

Day 9: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate

  • Elevation: 3,100m to 1,640m
  • Distance: 10 km
  • Time: 3–4 hours

The final descent takes you through lush rainforest, offering a refreshing and peaceful end to the trek. At Mweka Gate, you receive your summit certificate before returning to your hotel for rest and celebration.

Day 10: Departure

After breakfast, you will be transferred to the airport for your departure. Optional safari or Zanzibar extensions can be arranged if you wish to continue your adventure.
